Sheriff: inmate injures deputy; shoe store thieves flee on foot

LUDINGTON — A 33-year-old Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured Saturday, May 2, at 8:41 p.m. during an altercation with an inmate at the Mason County Jail, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. The deputy, a three-year veteran, sustained a serious hand injury after an inmate refused to return to a cell. The inmate is currently awaiting trial on home invasion and first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) charges and has been incarcerated since August of 2014, the sheriff stated.

In a separate incident, retail fraud suspects fled on foot from MCSO deputies, Friday, May 1, at 2:22 p.m. from Shoe Sensations, located in the 5500 block of W. US-10 in Pere Marquette Township. The case is pending, the sheriff said.
