SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Rural Fire Authority board is requesting its members receive a $15 per meeting increase. Currently, the members of the fire authority board receive $35 per board meeting attended. The board meets 12 times a year.
The Mason County Rural Fire Authority is governed by a five person board representing the areas covered by the authority. The board members are appointed by the municipalities that make up the fire authority, including City of Scottville, and the townships of Amber, Riverton, Summit, Victory, Grant, Free Soil, Eden, Sherman, Sheridan, Custer and Branch. There are seven fire departments within the authority.
The authority board’s bylaws require each of the municipalities to approve the stipend increase. Today, the Scottville City Commission is expected to take action on the request.
Also, according to the authority’s bylaws, the municipalities reimburse the authority for the wages of the firefighters. The board stipends are paid through the authority’s general budget.
Scottville City Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. at city hall, 105 N. Main St.
