VICTORY TWP. — When the West Shore Community College Board of Trustees meets later this afternoon, it will take action to appoint an acting president. President Charles Dillon has been on administrative leave since he was suspended with pay in early August. Dillon has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (see related story here). At its August meeting, the board appointed vice presidents Scott Ward and Lisa Stich to share the duties of president.

The board is now being asked to consider appointing only one acting president, Ward.

“The executive committee (of the board) has recently held weekly meetings with the president’s executive committee team,” Board Chairman James Jensen wrote in a memorandum to the board. “One of the issues that has arisen during those meetings has been the growing need for one individual to perform tasks related to the position of the president. These specific tasks include, among other things, signing documents, signing diplomas and decision making related to issues requiring immediate action.”

Jensen said the executive committee is requesting the interim operating plan, approved on Aug. 18, be amended to appoint Ward as acting president.

The board is also expected to go into closed session to discuss the evaluation of President Dillon.
