SCOTTVILLE — The Third Annual Brandon McVicker Memorial Softball Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at MacPhail Field. The event is held in memory of Brandon McVicker, who, in his early 20s, passed away in 2012 from leukemia. Proceeds of the event will be donated to someone in the community currently fighting cancer. The slow pitch tournament is coed.

“Brandon would be so proud and honored to be a part of this,” his mother, Bobbi McVicker said.  “We have a team called Brandon’s Bud that plays too.  It is a group of our very close friends and family. Our story is a long one, but the short version of it is that when I was going through my own battle with cancer, when I was just getting done with my chemo, and waiting to start my radiation Brandon became sick with Aml Leukemia.  Brandon had a very hard battle.  The leukemic cells grew faster then they could treat them.  I did my radiation in Grand Rapids and stayed right with Brandon while he was in the hospital.”
Brandon was a devoted firefighter who belonged to Branch and Custer fire departments.
“Our community has such amazing people,” Bobbi said. “I hope to get our story out to the community to let everyone know what we are doing and see if anyone would like to put a team in or donate any items for the raffle.  We cannot thank everyone enough for everything they did for us.”
Teams interested in playing can contact Megan Hill at 231-233-2449. Donations may be made through HeatherVanderhaag at 231-757-8180 or Bobbi McVicker at 231-462-3869,
