Assaulting police, cocaine possession yields prison term

LUDINGTON — Carl Lee Herring, 24, of 219 E. Loomis St., Ludington, was sentenced in 51st Circuit Court, June 25, to three concurrent prison terms for two counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer and controlled substance possession, less than 25 grams.

Herring received a term of one year, three months to four years with the Michigan Department of Corrections for the drug conviction and one year, three months to two years for each assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer conviction. He was credited with 52 days served in jail for all three terms. He was also ordered to pay $334 in fines and costs.

Herring was found guilty on all three counts, April 8. Another count of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer; one count of controlled substance, possession of marijuana; and one count of habitual offender, second conviction, were dismissed.
