Corrections officer injured during jail assault

LUDINGTON — Mason County Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Soneral was injured during an assault Wednesday morning at the Mason County Jail. Soneral, a corrections officer, was taken to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital where he was treated and released for a wrist injury. Sheriff Kim Cole said charges are being requested against a 25-year-old inmate for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old inmate. The incident took place at 6:05 a.m.

Other activity of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office for Wednesday, June 11, 2014 included:

– 12:03 p.m.: An 18-year-old Branch man and a 19-year-old Scottville man were arrested for marijuana possession following a traffic stop at Johnson and Brye roads in Amber Township.

– 8:30 a.m.: Threats complaint, City of Ludington. Case closed.

– 9:17 a.m.: Illegal dumping, 100 block of South Jebavy Dr., Pere Marquette Twp. Case pending.

– 12:05 p.m.: A 74-year-old Irons woman received minor injuries after the vehicle she was driving was rear-ended at the traffic light at U.S. 10-31 and Stiles Road in Amber Township. The other vehicle was driven by a 17-year-old Scottville man.

– 12:45 p.m.: Personal protection order violation, 300 block of South Meyers Rd., Amber Twp. Case pending.

– 3:45 p.m.: Three people, all from Manistee, received minor injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was rear-ended at U.S. 10-31 and Brye Rd., Amber Twp. The other vehicle was driven by a 38-year-old Branch man.

– 6:38 p.m.: Assist to Scottville Police Dept., 200 block of East State St., City of Scottville. Suicide attempt.

– 11:59 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, Scottville and Meisenheimer roads, Eden Twp.
