Arts council to hold annual meeting, celebrating 10 years

June 8, 2014

LUDINGTON – The Ludington Area Arts Council, a community arts organization that cultivates access to and advocacy for the arts and culture in west Michigan, is celebrating a decade of growth and revealing a new brand direction for the future at its annual meeting and open house on Tuesday, June 17 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts. The public is invited to join the celebration, which marks two key milestones for the arts council: 10 years since its founding and five years since the center was established at its current location in the former historic United Methodist Church at 107 S. Harrison Street.

The celebratory evening will begin with an open house from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. where the public can enjoy refreshments and self-guided tours through the facility as well as see artists at work. The annual meeting and election of board members is 6:30 to 8 p.m., followed by a brief board organizational meeting at 8 p.m.

LACA membership will be electing four new board members for a three-year term of office:  Thom Hawley with West Shore Community College, Brad Reed with Todd & Brad Reed Photography, Julie Schrader with Schrader Events & Marketing, and Kim Skeltis with Blue Blaze Public Relations, LLC.

In her first opportunity to formally address the community at an LACA annual meeting since joining the LACA in September, Executive Director Corinn VanWyck will unveil a new brand campaign symbolizing evolution of the organization and its purpose in cultivating access to and advocacy for the arts.

“This is such an amazing time for the growth and development of the LACA, and I’m excited to share with our supportive community how we as an arts center will continue to meet the cultural needs of our region,” said VanWyck. “Our goal is to encourage individuals to see the LACA as their center – and to engage and inspire our creative community.”

Parking for the center is available in the public lot south of the Center at the corner of Harrison and Loomis Streets. For more information about the LACA or the annual meeting and open house Tuesday, June 17, call 231-845-2787 or visit www.ludingtonartscenter.org.
