Lighthouse Festival Arts/Crafts Show is next Saturday

LUDINGTON – Several returning artists and crafters, along with some new faces, will be seen at the third annual Lighthouse Festival Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday, June 7. The one-day show is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts, 107 S. Harrison Street. Admission is $1; children 12 and under free.
The popular Maritime Magic arts and crafts show features, but is not limited to, items of a lighthouse, maritime or Michigan-specific theme.
Among the arts and crafts to be seen include photography, paintings, jewelry, cards, fiber crafts, vintage bottle lights, stoneware pottery, soaps, wooden bowls, maritime paintings, wood novelties, scarves, totes, American Girl doll clothes, pencil drawings, children’s items, dog collar/leash and upcycled items.
Participants are from Ravenna, Osseo, Northville, Swartz Creek, Rockford, Fife Lake, Grant, Zeeland, Luther, Manistee, and the Mason County area.
A new feature to this year’s show, is a Resale Shop on the second floor of the Arts Center. Items donated by arts center members and supporters will be available for purchase.  Lunch will be available for purchase from the Center’s kitchen and The Muse, the Art Center’s gift shop, will be open for customers.
The arts and crafts show will also include information and merchandise from lighthouse associations as well as handmade crafts from Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association volunteers. In addition, Valerie vanHeast, noted author, maritime historian, diver and cofounder of the Michigan Shipwreck Research Associates, will be doing a book-signing.
The arts and crafts show is part of the Michigan’s West Coast Lighthouse Festival coordinated by the Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association the first weekend in June.
In the evening of June 7, VanHeast will be joined by Lee Murdock, interpreter of songs and tales about the Great Lakes, at 7 p.m. in the arts center performance hall. She will speak on the Thomas Hume, a lumber schooner whose remains the shipwreck association has discovered. Tickets, $12 for general admission, for the evening event are available from the Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association.
