Suspect charged for assault on corrections officer

Klopp_Eric_ MichaelLUDINGTON — Eric Michael Klopp of Muskegon was arraigned Thursday in Mason County’s 79th District Court for assaulting a corrections officer. The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Thursday when Klopp allegedly resisted correction deputies during booking at the Mason County Jail, resulting in a knee injury to Dep. Ed Rasmussen.

Rasmussen was treated and released from Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.

Klopp has been charged with resisting and opposing a corrections officer, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated third offense and driving while license suspended. He was originally arrested by Michigan State Police after a traffic stop on Lasalle Road in Grant Township.
