Ludington man arrested for driving wrong way on expressway

PENTWATER TWP. Oceana County — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Hart Post arrested a 26-year-old Ludington man after receiving a call of a vehicle driving the wrong direction on U.S. 31, fleeing from the scene of an accident.

According to a press release, Mason-Oceana 911 received a call at approximately 12:30 a.m. from a motorist whose vehicle had been struck by the wrong way driver as she was exiting the freeway at Oceana Dr. at the Mason-Oceana counties line. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage but the suspect vehicle kept driving south bound in the north bound traffic lane after the accident. The suspect vehicle was located by troopers still travelling south bound in the north bound lane near Wayne Rd. The vehicle nearly struck a state police patrol car head-on as it was responding to the call. The driver was arrested without further incident after being stopped by troopers.

The driver was lodged in the Oceana County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated- high blood alcohol content (commonly known as “superdrunk” and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Troopers were assisted by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, and Hart Police Department.
