SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central Middle School teacher Sherryl Martin died at her home early this morning at her LaSalle Road home.

Martin, 54, has been at MCC since 1996. In addition to teaching, she was a principal when Riverton Elementary was in operation. Her current assignment was teaching seventh grade science and middle school health.

“It is with great sadness that we need to inform you of the loss of one our MCC family members,” Mount stated in an email to staff. “Mrs. Sherryl Martin, 7th grade science teacher, passed away peacefully in her sleep during the night.

“We have shared this information with our middle and high school students. Grief counselors and social workers are available at the middle school, and as needed at other buildings, to assist our students, staff and families in dealing with our loss.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we mourn the passing of Mrs. Martin and cope with necessary adjustments to meet the needs of our students.”

Life EMS and Scottville Fire Department medical first responders were called to Martin’s home early this morning.
