Beach advisory until Wednesday

Here are the current conditions for the Lake Michigan shoreline and Mason County (including Pentwater) as of 9:30 a.m. today.

The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazards advisory for the beaches from Whitehall to Manistee. The advisory is in effect until Wednesday night. There is a potential for high wave action and dangerous swimming conditions due to strong structural currents and rip currents. The advisory was made due to increasingly strong north winds today and tonight.

Beaches with particularly dangerous conditions include Stearns Park in Ludington and Charles Mears State Park in Pentwater, the advisory stated.

Lake Michigan water temperatures:

Ludington Stearns Park: 53 F

Ludington State Park (Big Sable Point): 53 F

Summit Park: 64 F

Pentwater: 67 F

Afternoon air temperatures:

Ludington: Mostly sunny with temperatures reaching 70 degrees F. Humidity: 63%; wind: north at 13 mph changing to north-northwest at 20 mph later.

Scottville and Pentwater: Mostly sunny with temperatures reaching 72 degrees F. Humidity: 58%; wind: north at 12 mph changing to north-northwest at 20 mph.
