LUDINGTON — Two current street projects are on schedule. City Manager John Shay reports the Washington Avenue bridge project is proceeding. He stated in a memo to City Council that the demolition of the existing bridge has begun and the contractor has already been driving new piles into the ground as part of the support structure for the new bridge. South Washington will be closed to through traffic between Dowland and First streets until the project is complete at the end of October.
Hallack Contracting of Hart has begun work to reconstruct Fifth Street between Sherman and Lincoln streets. Shay stated the contract calls for the project to be substantially completed by Sept. 30 but the contractor has indicated that it may be possible to complete the project by the end of August or beginning of September. The reconstruction includes replacing the water main, sanitary sewer main and repaving the street.
