PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a crash on US 10 east of the intersection of Nelson Road Monday afternoon. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the crash occurred with a BMW328i, that was westbound on US 10, apparently attempted to make a lefthand turn into the plaza at 5773 W. US 10, colliding with the Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was eastbound on US 10.

Cole said the male driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and the female driver of the BMW was cooperating with law enforcement in providing a blood chemical test.

The driver of the motorcycle was initially transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and was expected to be airlifted by helicopter to a Grand Rapids trauma center. The driver of the BMW received minor injuries.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Ludington Police Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department, and Life EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
