8 nominated for Business of the Year.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Eight businesses have been nominated for the 2017 Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year award, which will be awarded during the chamber’s annual dinner on Saturday, May 5 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Hamlin Township.

The nominees include All Seasons Porta-Jons, Luciano Ristoranti, Photography by Sue Brown, Safe Harbor Credit Union, Safety Decals, Smith & Eddy Insurance, The Q Smokehouse, and WMOM radio.

The nominations are made by community members and the recipient is chosen by the chamber board.

Here is a profile of the nominees:

All Seasons Port-Jons is owned by Jim Lund and located at 765 N. Dennis Road in Amber Township. The business was started 25 years ago by Lund and Ted Douglas.

Luciano Risoranti is located at 103 W. Ludington Ave. in Ludington and specializes in Italian food. 

Photography by Sue Brown is owned by Sue and Steve Brown and located at 1676 W. Hansen Road in Amber Township. Sue Brown was recently named the Michigan Photographer of the Year by the Professional Photographers of Michigan.

Safe Harbor Credit Union is located at 1200 E. Tinkham Ave. in Ludington. It is a member owned service that provides service to members throughout the country through a network with hundreds of other credit unions. It has been serving the community for 66 years.

Safety Decals is owned by Nick Tykoski. Nick is the third generation of his family to own a sign company. But, Safety Decals does much more than signs. It creates decals and promotional products for businesses large and small, across the country. It is located at 5236 W. First St., Pere Marquette Township.

Smith & Eddy Insurance is based in Scottville, with offices in Ludington and Manistee. It has been in business since 1902 and began as the McPhail and Cole Agency, making it the oldest continuous business in Scottville and one of the oldest in Mason County.

The Q Smokehouse is located at 225 S. James St., Ludington, and specializes in southern style barbecue. It is owned by Dave Diephouse.

WMOM FM 102.7 radio began in 1999. The station recently was named top radio station in Michigan in its market. It is owned by Patrick Lopeman, Bayview Broadcasting of Milwaukee, Wisc.
