AMBER TOWNSHIP — A 50-year-old Scottville man was ticketed Sunday afternoon for driving too fast for conditions after the van he was driving lost control on US 10-31 just west of Stiles Road, causing a collision that hospitalized two people from another vehicle.

James Robert Wicks was driving a Chevrolet Venture minivan west on US 10-31 when he apparently lost control and struck an eastbound Ford Escape SUV driven by Ricky Lee Toole, 62, of Fountain, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. The crash occurred during a rain storm. Toole’s vehicle went off the south side of the highway and rolled over into a ditch, pinning him in the vehicle.

Toole and his passenger, Julie Toole, 53, were transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Scottville Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department, and Life EMS ambulance.

The crash closed a portion of the highway for about an hour.
