CUSTER TOWNSHIP — A 64-year-old Florida woman was injured following a two-vehicle crash on Custer Road just north of Sugar Grove Road about 5:45 p.m. Thursday. According to Mason County Sheriff Deputy Matt Moss, the Florida woman was traveling north on Custer Road in a Chrysler mini van. She was being followed by a 20-year-old Fountain man driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck. After the two vehicles passed Sugar Grove Road, the minivan began to slow down and started to pull into an access drive in a field on the west side of Custer Road. At that moment, the driver of the pickup began to pass, causing both vehicles to enter into a ditch on the west side of the road, just past the access drive.

The driver of the mini-van was trapped inside the vehicle but suffered from minor injuries. The driver of the pickup was uninjured. Neither vehicle had any additional passengers. The driver of the mini van was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

Responding to the scene, in addition to MCSO, were Fountain Area Fire Department, Custer Township Fire Department and Life EMS ambulance.
