HAMLIN TWP. — A body was found by bicyclists about 3 miles north of Big Point Sable Lighthouse Tuesday night. Law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel were called to the Ludington State Park and the west end of Nordlund Road around 8 p.m.

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole confirmed the body was a man, but officials were unable to get an age estimation or a race on the scene. He was found about 68 feet east of the water line. Cole said the body was frozen and deteriorated, indicating that it may have been there for several months, possibly since the fall.

No clothing was on the body except for shoes and socks. Undersheriff Jody Harltey said that would indicate to him that the body most likely had not washed up from Lake Michigan but instead may have been a person camping.

Cole said detectives will return to the scene in the morning and emergency personnel will search the area for possible camp sites. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

More information will be released when available, Cole said.
