Man arrested for OWI after walking on US 31 five miles from crash scene.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — A 28-year-old North Muskegon man was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies Monday, Jan. 17, shortly before 2 a.m. following a single-vehicle crash on northbound US 31 at the westbound US 10 off-ramp, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“A motorist reported a male walking southbound on the US 31 freeway near the 165 mile marker,” said Sheriff Cole.  “Responding deputies found the subject who was reportedly intoxicated. His vehicle was found crashed on the northbound US 31 off-ramp about five miles north of where he was found.  

“The investigation into the crash revealed the suspect vehicle was northbound on US 31 and failed to negotiate the westbound US 10 off-ramp. The vehicle left the road, struck a post and guardrail and overturned. The vehicle had sustained major damage, and no injuries were reported.”

  • 6:15 p.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Schoenherr Road north of Sugar Grove Road, Sheridan Township.
  • 7:53 p.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Custer Road north of Johnson Road, Custer Township.
  • 9:24 p.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Wilson Road east of Darr Road, Custer Township.
