Gloria Virginia Simmon, age 93 of Ludington passed away on September 21, 2015 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.

Gloria was born on September 9, 1922 in Lansing, the daughter of the late Raymond and Aloa (Moore) Bettison. She attended and graduated from Everett High School. During World War II Gloria married R. Thomas Simmon. Gloria retired from the State of Michigan Social Services.

Gloria was a member of Prayer and Praise Assembly of God in Ludington and was very active in jail ministry after her retirement, spending 20 years volunteering at the Mason County Jail. She also enjoyed traveling around the state on her motorcycle doing prison ministry.  She was a talented musician on the piano, organ, and accordion, spending many hours at both Oakview and Tendercare playing for the residents. Gloria loved her cats and leaves behind her baby, Angel. She was an avid camper in her younger years. Gloria had a deep faith in Jesus and enjoyed participating in many prayer groups.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Susan (Larry) Lange of Ludington; grandchildren, Eron (Kimberly) Lange of Round Lake, Illinois and Scott (Shannon) Lange of Eaton Rapids; great grandson, Casey Lange of Langley Air Force Base, Virginia; brother, Richard (Darlene) Bettison of Amber Township and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday September 26, 2015 at Prayer and Praise Assembly of God church, 509 N. Staffon St., with Pastor Henrik Lidman officiating. There will be a light luncheon after the service. Final internment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lansing at a later date. Memorial contributions in Gloria’s name may be directed to Prayer and Praise Assembly of God. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution.
