Art center to hold Great Staycation Celebration

May 6, 2014

LUDINGTON — Ludington Area Center for the Arts is offering a great way to celebrate the upcoming summer season and to remind residents what a great place Mason County is to live and to visit.

On Saturday, May 17, the center, located on South Harrison Street, will host the Great Staycation Celebration fundraiser.

“After a recent event several of us were sitting around and talking about all the great places there are to visit in this area,” said Corinn VanWyck, executive director of the Ludington Area Arts Council. “Then we thought, wouldn’t it be great to put these things together in packages and auction them off. Not only to benefit the arts center but to boost the local economy and help community members experience these things in their own back yard.”

The event’s theme will be “the beach.” It will feature live music from the Skelton Crew, raffles and live and silent auctions. Over 90 area businesses have donated items for the auctions. Several of the items are packaged together.

The event is from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person, which includes five tickets to the Buckets O’ Fun raffle; only 100 tickets will be sold. Ticket admission also includes appetizers. There will be a cash bar.

However, auction items will be available for viewing and bidding at the even’t Facebook site. VanWyck said people will be able to state their high bid and then proxy bidders will be available to represent them at the auction.

Live auction items include a trip on the S.S. Badger, Pentwater and Ludington shopping excursions, golfing, canoeing, camping, theater and art works packages.

Some of the silent auction packages include pontoon and lunch, golf, lighthouse tours, marina dockage.
Raffle items include gift certificates, arts and crafts items, specialty food baskets, activity passes.
“Over $7,500 in auction and raffle prizes are up for grabs,” VanWyck said.
